Yevon Tipton Kerley, age 94, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016 at her home in Maryville, TN. Yevon touched the lives of so many people. She will be missed, but her generosity and kindness will be well-remembered. Her beloved husband, Seldon (Pud) Kerley, preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving daughters, Selda Kerley and Myra Kerley; special nieces, Cheryl Tipton and Winnie Porter, along with many other nieces and nephews, and good friends. She was born July 24, 1922 in Helena, TN, near Jamestown. She was the youngest of three children of Zorel and Myra Bicknell Tipton. Her parents, her sister, Geneva Derryberry, and brother, Jobson, who lost his life in World War II, all preceded her in death. Yevon was a former member of First Baptist Jefferson City and Laurel Grove Baptist in Sevierville, TN. For the past 65 years, she has been an active member of East Maryville Baptist Church where she taught both Sunday school and Bible school. During her final days, she sang favorite hymns and songs for her family and friends. Her love of basketball started when she was an outstanding forward for the Jefferson County High School basketball team and continued with her love for the Lady Vols. Special thanks to caregivers and friends: Carolyn, Cindy, Erin, Jean, Gert, Kathy, Mike, Linda and Dr. Jane. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 16, 2016 at Grandview Cemetery. Yevon’s earthly absence will sadden our hearts, but we rejoice that she is resting in the arms of Jesus. As she often asked, “Do you know my Jesus, and are you ready to meet him?” Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
