Wilma Ruth Prince (91) passed away on Thursday September 28th in Maryville, Tennessee after a 2 year battle with Alzheimer's. Visitation will be 12:00-2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 4th at the Smith Funeral Home in Maryville. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Brandon Hord of In His Presence Church and Pastor Charles Parker officiating. Burial will be at the Marble Hill Cemetery in Friendsville, Tennessee after the service. Wilma was born in Townsend, Tennessee on July 22, 1926 to the late Peter and Carrie Headrick. She graduated from Friendsville High School in 1944 where she lettered as a guard on their women's basketball team. She married Charles T. Prince on July 27, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1995. They moved in the early 1950's to Muncie, Indiana. While raising a family of 7 children there, she served as the crossing guard at Sutton Elementary School, organized youth sport activities for the school, and participated in women's softball and volleyball leagues into her mid 60's. In 1993 they moved to a farm in Greenback, Tennessee. Wilma enjoyed attending her local church, gardening, reading and listening to her police scanner for the local news. She became an avid Lady Vols Basketball fan, watching on TV, listening on radio, and attending games frequently with her son, Roy. During the last several years of illness, she was lovingly cared for by her son,Troy. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, son Joseph, brother Carl Headrick and sister Lois Cook. Wilma is survived by her daughters Wanda Haven (Ralph) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Charlotte Stanley (Joseph) of Las Vegas, Nevada, sons Charles Jr. (Patricia) of Jacksonville, Florida, Roy of Greenback, Tennessee, Troy of Greenback, Tennessee, and Steven (Dawn) of Dunkirk, Indiana, brothers-in-law Homer Prince (Betty) of Louisville, Tennessee, and Samuel Cook of Greenback, Tennessee, sister-in-law Geneva Prince of Anderson, Indiana , 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
