Willie Maynard Newman

Willie Maynard Newman, age 88 of Loudon, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018 at home. He graduated from Meigs County High School in Decater, TN. He earned an Associates Degree in accounting from TN Wesleyan College and a BA degree in English From Carson-Newman College. He received his Masters Degree in Theology in 1958 from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Willie was a Baptist minister and was ordained at Blue Springs Baptist Church in Cleveland, TN in 1959. He served at First Baptist Church in New Tazewell, TN, Armona Baptist Church, Alcoa, TN, and First Baptist Church, Bryson City, NC. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War from February 1951 to February 1953 as an Infantry Corporal. He then served in the Reserves for five years. Preceded in death by: Father, Tom Davis Newman; Mother, Velma Wilson Newman; Brothers & Sisters, Joyce Cockerham, Reese Newman, Ed Newman, John Newman, Juanita Rinehart; Grandson, Joshua Newman. Survivors include: Wife, Eloise Shull Newman; Sons, Bill (Cindy) Newman of Candler, NC, Bob (Kim) Newman of Maryville, TN, Ben (Yvette) Newman of Knoxville, TN, Brad (Sherri) Newman of Herndon, VA, and Bart (Julie) Newman of Knoxville, TN; Grandchildren, Mark (Whitney) Newman, Jonathan (Rebecca) Newman, Lindsey Newman, Taylor Newman, Victoria Newman, Andrew Newman, Brittany Newman, Stephanie Newman, Bryson Newman, Raelie Newman, Paris Newman; Brothers and Sisters, Jim (Mary) Newman of Marietta, GA, Frank Bige (Roberta) Newman of Harrison, TN, Carolyn (Claude) Tallent of Athens, TN, Ralph “Pete” (Carolyn) Newman of Athens, TN, Archie (Bo) (Vickie) Newman of Athens, TN; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 PM, Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Central Baptist Church Bearden, Knoxville. Funeral service will follow at 5:00 PM with Dr. Wade Bibb officiating.
