Tipton, William E. age 88 passed away May 11, 2007 in Florida. He was born in Chilhowee, TN on July 4, 1918 to Noah Harrison Tipton and Ila Mary (Lowe) Tipton and reared by Arville Rauston Lawson, step-father. Mr. Tipton owned and operated 7up Bottling Norfolk, VA, until her retired. He served in the U.S. Army 1941 - 1945. He enjoyed golf, dancing and his grandchildren, who were the love of his life. He was a 50 year Shriner, a volunteer for the Salvation Army, and involved in several charitable organizations. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, in Muskegon, MI and Port Charlotte, FL. Preceded in death by: Daughter, Carolyn Tipton Puckett and husband Warren Puckett of Chesapeake, VA; Brother, Noah Ray and wife Marilyn Tipton of Richmond, VA; Sisters, Nancy Lorena and husband Denman Johnson of Knoxville, TN and Mary Ruth and husband John Maddox of Rockville, MD; brother-in-law, James Calkin of Maryville, TN. Survivors include: wife, Rose; two step-sons, Jeffrey (Nancy) Griffith, Scott (Lori) Griffith; four grandchildren, Allison, Ashley, Danielle, and Hudson; three sisters, Inez Calkin, Billie June (Kenneth) Williams, Betty Hayes; brother, Fred (Sharon) Lawson of Maryville, TN; Sisters-in-law, Nellie Damron, Jan Tipton, Cathy (James) Frazier; brothers-in-law, Ernest (Phyllis) Hudson, Robert (Patricia) Hudson, Mickey Hudson, Tony (Patricia) Hudson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Rosa Mackey Fund, Comerica Bank, 414 Center St, N. Muskegon, MI 49445 for her long and loving care of William, or the charitable organization of your choice. A celebration of his life will be held in Maryville, TN on June 16, 2007, 11:00 a.m., Smith Mortuary, Trinity Chapel, with Lyn Akins officiating. A reception and luncheon will follow at Smith Mortuary's Life Event Center.
