William Alse Martin age 92, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the home of son and daughter-in-law, Allen & Sue Martin of Walland surrounded by his family. He was a loving daddy, "poppy" and papaw and will truly be missed. He was born July 17, 1915 and was the last living child of William Thomas and Margaret Ann Ogle Martin. He was a life time member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He retired from ALCOA with 36 years of service and was a member of the Alcoa 25 Year Club. He was a veteran of WWII having served with Troop B, 81st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron in Tunisia, PO Valley, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno and North Appenines. He served from August 19, 1941 until June 22, 1945. He enjoyed 30 years of retirement doing the things he loved, working on his son's farm in Walland in the hayfields, gardening and taking care of the animals and all outdoor activities with family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Stella Mae Blair Martin; parents, brothers, Huse Martin, Sam Martin. Tom Martin, John Martin, Fred Martin, Chester Martin, Lester Martin and sisters, Mattie Potter and Mamie Caldwell. Survivors: sons & daughters-in-law, Tim & Shirley Martin, Kenneth & Donna Martin, Allen & Sue Martin; son, Steve Martin; Daughter and Son-in-law, Judy & Gary Hackney; Grandchildren and spouses, Timmy & Denise Martin, Lee & Lori Martin, Keith & Tina Hackney, Gregory Martin, Kayla Martin, Derek Martin, and Kimberly Martin; great-grandchildren, Emily, Austin, Ashley, Tosha, and Tonya Martin, Alayna and Andrew Martin, Trey, Claire, and Cade Hackney. A very special thank you to devoted sons, Allen and Tim, for their love and care of our daddy the past 2 � years. Graveside service and interment 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Grandview Cemetery with Rev. Tim Martin and Rev. Kenneth Martin officiating. Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Timmy, Lee, Keith, Gregory and Derek. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Kayla & Kimberly.
