William Reid Jopling, Jr.

July 1, 1928 — December 6, 2009

W. Reid Jopling, Jr. age 81 of Townsend, originally of Wilkes-Barre, PA, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2009 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College in PA and a Veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army Band. He performed USO Shows at all of the European Theatre. After the service he enjoyed touring with the Charlie Spevak Band and others. He was a member of Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church in Townsend. He enjoyed coaching youth sports. He was the previous owner of Pioneer Cabins and Guest Farm and currently with Country Manor Acres. He loved riding his tractor and his horses on his 61 acres. Survivors include his wife, April Jopling; sons, William Reid Jopling, III and wife, Valerie of PA, and Jeffrey R. Jopling of Townsend; daughter, Judith Ann Osborne and husband, Forbes of PA; grandchildren, Andrew and Kimberly Osborne and Zoey, Matthew, and Trevor Jopling. Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Johnson officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2009 at Caylor’s Chapel Church Cemetery with Rev. Ken Abbott officiating. A luncheon will follow. Memorial donations may be made to Tuckaleechee UMC Mission Team/Garden. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Tuckaleechee UMC in Townsend.
