William Gene Hodge

October 21, 1932 — March 8, 2007

Hodge, William Gene born October 21, 1932 in Jefferson County passed away Thursday, March 8, 2007 at Blount Transitional Care. He retired from ALCOA where he was West Plant Rolling Superintendent and was a member of the 25 Year Club. With his brother, Tommy he formed Smoky View Enterprises. They built and operated Smoky View Market and Westgate Market. They owned and operated movie rental stores in Maryville, Knoxville, and Morristown. They also developed local real estate. Preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Lillie Kerr Hodge; nephew, Bill Williams; brother-in-law, Albert Byrum and father-in-law, Gordon McCall. Survivors include wife, Jane McCall Hodge; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Kandy Hodge, Todd and Susan Hodge; daughter and future husband, Nikki Taylor and Doug Garner; grandchildren, Nick Hodge, Jenna Hodge, Will Hodge, Cooper Hodge, Callie Kennedy, and Brock Taylor; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Wanda Hodge; sister, Maxine Byrum; mother-in-law, Mary McCall; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mac and Koky McCall, Jenny and Darrell Headrick, and Joe and Vicki McCall; several nieces and nephews; special friends Tommy Baker and RJ and Judy Byrum; devoted caregiver, Patty Sneed. Special thanks to Dr. Knoll and the nurses and staff at Blount Memorial Transitional Care for their care and support through Bill's illness. Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2007 in the Trinity Chapel with Rev. Alvin Tallent and Rev. Mark Grubb officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Bank Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to Springview Baptist Church, 4220 US hwy 411 South, Maryville, TN 37801 or Friendsville First Baptist Church, 403 N. Farnum Street, P.O. Box 116, Friendsville, TN 37737. The Family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 983-1000.
