William H. (Bill) Douglass, co-founder and owner of the South's Finest Chocolate Factory passed away early Monday morning. Mr. Douglass, age 74, died at Shannondale of Maryville Healthcare Center. Bill was a graduate of Alcoa High School, Class of 1958. He earned a BS in business from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Bill also served in the Air National Guard and was honorably discharged. Prior to his career in chocolate, Mr. Douglass was Vice-President of Morristown Federal Savings and Loan in Jefferson City, TN. Bill was a lover of chocolate and successfully guided the South's Finest Chocolate Factory to become a Knoxville landmark and a regional business. In 1973 the South's Finest Chocolate Factory moved all manufacturing to the Candy Factory the World's Fair Site and was one the early businesses helping to rejuvenate downtown Knoxville. He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Gordon H. Douglass of Alcoa; four brothers, Gordon H. Douglass, Jr., James L. Douglass, Thomas E. Douglass, and Richard J. Douglass; and three sisters, Peggy L. Douglass, Betty R. Douglass, and Margaret L. Owens. He is survived by his sister, Charlene D. Reynolds (Bob) of Oak Ridge; two sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Bill is also survived by one special niece, Sherri Marques and her daughter, Amber Reagan, and special friend, Ellis Bacon, who was responsible for his excellent care. In keeping with Mr. Douglass's wishes there will be no service at this time. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
