Wayne J. Miltenberger, 58, passed away Friday, September 5th at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after a bold and courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Wayne was born in Westhope, North Dakota and raised in Minot, North Dakota along with 8 brothers and sisters. He resided in Tampa, Florida for 33 years where he raised his son, Bryan and daughter, Kristin, and met and married Alcoa resident and native, Mary Miltenberger. Wayne moved to Alcoa in 1999 and resided there with Mary and her daughter, Alexis. Wayne was employed at 21st Mortgage in Knoxville where he worked in credit management. Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Paul Miltenberger, who died when Wayne was very young, and his mother and step-father, Florence and Peter Bachmeier. Survivors include his wife, Mary Barnes Miltenberger of Alcoa; his children, Bryan Miltenberger and Kristen Miltenberger of Tampa, Florida; one grandson, Ryder Miltenberger of Tampa, Florida; step-daughter, Alexis Hemrick of Alcoa; 3 brothers, Bill Miltenberger of Temecula, CA, Robert Bachmeier of Minot, ND, and Mark Bachmeier of Winston-Salem, NC; 5 sisters, Paulette Ruby, Helen Woiwode, and Sheila Locken, all of Minot, ND, Fran Miltenberger of Bismarck, ND, and JoAnn Baker of Greensboro, NC. The family will hold a celebration of Wayne's life at Smithview Pavilion, an outdoor pavilion located at the end of Smithview Drive in Maryville at 6:00pm on Wednesday, September 10th. Please dress business casual. Funeral services will follow at 7:00pm at the Pavilion with Wayne's uncle, Father Ben Bachmeier of San Diego, CA officiating. The family will hold an entombment service at Grandview Cemetery in Maryville on Thursday morning. Pallbearers will be Wayne's son, Bryan and Wayne's three brothers, Bill, Bob, and Mark. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the oncology doctors and nurses at Blount Memorial Hospital, with a special thanks to Dr. Eric Schrock and Dr. Robert D. Schumaker. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in honor of Wayne to the Hospital Hospitality House, 214 Reidhurst Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203.
