Virginia T. Stivers

Virginia Thurston Stivers of Maryville, TN, formerly of Memphis, TN, died Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Shannondale of Maryville. Virginia was born August 27, 1921 in Bartlett, TN. She was preceded in death by: Husband of over 55 years, Bob Stivers; Parents, Molly & James Thurston; Brother & Sister-in-law, Jim & Jean Thurston. Survivors include: Son & Daughter-in-law, Bob & Beth Stivers of Knoxville, TN; Daughter & Son-in-law, Nancy & Lloyd Rowland of Clifton, VA; Grandchildren, Ali & John Umbarger, Lloyd Rowland, Rob & Leigh Stivers, and Ben & Tobi Rowland; Seven Great-Grandchildren, Mason, Caleigh, Elizabeth, Carson Belle, Justin, Paige, and Virginia. Virginia attended the University of Tennessee, was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and met her husband Bob. After their marriage, they made their home in Oak Ridge then to Memphis where they became very active and dedicated members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. After Bob’s retirement, they traveled the world making friends wherever they were. Later she would share these memories with her family and friends. Also, Virginia was an enthusiastic UT Sports fan, especially of the Lady Vols. A private family graveside service will be followed by visitation from 4:00 until 5:00 PM with a Celebration of Life at 5:00 PM, on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Fairview United Methodist Church, 2505 Old Niles Ferry Road, Maryville, TN, with Dr. Jerry Russell presiding.
