Thomas Roger Jones, 65, of Knoxville, died Friday, January 15, 2016 and entered into the presence of the Lord and Savior following a lengthy illness. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 19th from 5pm to 7pm at Smith Funeral & Cremation service (1402 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37803). A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 20th at 10am at Our Lady Fatima Catholic Church (858 Louisville Road, Alcoa, TN 37701) with internment following at 11:15am at Grandview Cemetery (2304 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37803). Roger was born in Mayfield, Kentucky on February 22, 1950, the son of Frederick R. Jones and Violet E. Jones. He attended high school at Mayfield High School and graduated in 1968. He was also a graduate of the University of Kentucky where he received a degree in electrical engineering. Over his career, Roger worked for TVA, Martin Marietta, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. A caring nurturer, he loved and supported all who were fortunate to call him family and friend. A proud Kentuckian and basketball fan, he enjoyed cheering on his UK Wildcats and UT in all other sports, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his large extended family. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and current member of All Saints parish. Roger is survived by his three children: Andy (Marianne) of Philadelphia, PA, Amy Thomason (Tim) of Seymour, TN, and Scott (Stephanie) of Asheville, NC; six cherished grandchildren: Xander, Sarah, Audrey, Reid, Henry, and Mason; six loving siblings: Suzanne (Louis) Johnson, Ren (John) Rue, Phil (Nancy) Jones, Joe (Brenda) Jones, Sheila (Mike) Tepe, and Russ Jones; his former wife, beloved friend, and caregiver Debbie Jones; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dickie Jones.
