Sylvia Mae Stooksbury

Sylvia (Abbott) Stooksbury of Maryville, TN, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Kindred Fairpark Nursing Home. She was born on May 23, 1929 to Luther and Johnie (Lane) Abbott. IN 1932 the Abbott family moved from Cades Cove to Maryville as a result of legislation creating the Great Smoky Mountains National park. She married Ted Stooksbury on December 9, 1950. She had an unwavering faith in God and was a member of Piney Level Baptist Church. Sylvia enjoyed travel, cooking, gardening, her pets and most importantly her family, both immediate and her group of close knit cousins. She had an independent, feisty streak and was not shy about giving her opinion. “Gramma” had a special love for her four grand-daughters, Jamie (Austin, TX), Andrea (Baltimore, MD), Hannah (Atlanta, GA) and Keeley (Knoxville, TN). Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Burl Abbott and her husband of 40 years, Ted Stooksbury. She is survived by: Son, Bill & wife Laura; four grandchildren; brother, Charles Abbott and wife Shelby. The family gives special thanks to caregivers at Sterling Place and Kindred Nursing Home. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday, June 30, 2017 at Smith West Chapel. Family and friends will assemble for graveside service and entombment at 9:00 AM, Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Grandview Mausoleum Chapel with Rev.
