Sylvester Yates Pierce, Jr.

Sylvester Yates Pierce, Jr., age 83, of Louisville, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 at home with his family by his side. He was a WWII veteran with the U.S. Army and flew for the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Pierce was an avid hunter and aviation enthusiast. He was a longtime employee of Piedmont Airlines and was known for his sense of humor. He was a devoted husband and loving Father who lived his life in faith and was a friend to many. One of the last of “The Greatest Generation�?. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester Sr. and Nancy Pierce. Survivors include his high school sweetheart and Loving Wife of 64 years, Marjorie Lett Pierce; Sons and Daughters-in-law, Don Pierce, Doug and Laurie Pierce, and Andy and Carla Marie Pierce; Daughter & Son-in-law, Kathryn Cogar & Graham Walford; Grandchildren, Colin Cogar, Mary Fahringer, Ginny Crispen, Kristen Mary, and Anna, Kathryn, Samantha, and Amy Pierce; Great Grandson, Cole; Sisters, Cornelia Hasen of Memphis and Nancy Williams of Murfreesboro. A celebration of Mr. Pierce’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in the Smith West Chapel with Pastor Darren Wigington officiating.
