Shirley Ann Russell

June 7, 1943 — August 7, 2007

Shirley Ann Frye Russell, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed from this earth into the heavenly realm August 7, 2007, at Blount Memorial Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. Born June 7, 1943, in Balken, Kentucky, to Shirrell and Nancy Frye, she moved to Walland when she was a young girl and attended Cold Springs Elementary and Walland High Schools. She married James Russell in 1961 and began a twenty year adventure as a Navy wife, living in such far flung places as San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Adak, Alaska. She was awarded a citation from the Department of the Navy for the dedication and support she exhibited during her husband's military career. Once back in Maryville, she partnered with him as a long-haul truck driver, worked for Fort Sanders Hospital and finally for Blount Memorial Hospital before illness forced her from the job she enjoyed. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jim, her daughter, Rebecca Russell, her son and his fianc�, Eric Russell and Carolyn LaMore, sons and daughters-in-law, Mitchell and Brenda Russell and Jason and Alicia Russell, brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Joan Frye, sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ellen and Don McClanahan and Vicki and Dan Teffeteller, sister-in-law, Dorothy Fowler, grand-daughter, Andr�a Wilkerson, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and special friends, John and Jan Banta of Xenia, Ohio, Iris & Jerry Goolsby of Alachua, Florida, and Sue Keller of Maryville. She was preceded in death by parents, Shirrell and Nancy Frye and brother, Tim Frye. Funeral service will be at 8:00 PM, Friday, August 10, 2007 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Mack Turner officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 11, 2007 at Grandview Cemetery for the interment. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday, August 10, 2007, Smith Trinity Chapel. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000.
