Sharon A. Cross age 66 of Maryville, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a retired area coordinator with the American Scandinavian Student Exchange Program. She was in charge of placing hundreds of European students in American homes and American students in European homes. Also, she was a registered dental assistant and a licensed beautician. Sharon set up and staffed a medical clinic at the old Eagleton Elementary school. She was currently a member of Broadway Baptist Church, a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Memphis, a former Sunday School teacher and a Girl Scout leader. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale & Stella Carpenter; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Walter & Tola Cross. Survivors include her husband, James T. Cross; daughter & partner, Cherrie B. Cross & Dea Saranto of AL; sons & daughters-in-law, James Mark & Wendy Cross of FL and Matthew Shane & Jan Cross of MO; sister & brother-in-law, Sandra & Wally Evans of CA; brother & sister-in-law, Gregory & Vickie Carpenter of FL; grandsons, James Andrew Cross of FL and William Kaleb Cross of MO; granddaughters, Skyler Brooke Cross of FL and Ashley Nicole Cross of MO; nephews, David Scott Bell & wife, Sandra of NC, Brian Bell of Knoxville, Thomas Carpenter & wife, Ashley of England, Michael Coslett & wife Chrisy of CA, Jeff Coslett, US Navy; nieces, Kim Coslett of GA; Tracy Taylor & husband, Ryan, Lora Chapman & husband, Patrick; several great nephews & nieces; beloved cousins, Lorraine Hicks of Louisville and Nancy Musgrove of Summertown, favorite uncle & aunt, Nick & Ardith Carpenter; sister-in-law, Iris Ann Wilkerson & husband, David of Jellico. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 pm Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Smith Trinity Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be at 4:00 p.m. She will be entombed at Grandview Mausoleum.
