Selma Gertrude Hos

Selma Gertrude (Clark) Hos - Age 89, died Monday, August 25, 2014 in Knox County. She was born April 11, 1925 in West Terre Haute, Indiana in her parents' home to Catherine Joslin Clark and James Patrick Clark. Selma graduated from Concannon High School in W. Terre Haute in 1943 as Salutatorian of her class. She married Frank E. Hos, Oct. 17, 1947 at the Clark home on Ferguson Hill. They traveled the U.S. for The Boeing Company for 35 years, also living in Iceland before retiring in 1985 to Louisville, Blount County, TN. Selma was a strong, brave, resilient woman who managed whatever life handed her. Devoted to her family, she loved to cook, feeding our bodies, and with her wisdom, our souls. She was a lifelong Democrat who always cared about the underdog and was keenly aware of global issues. She was a continuing advocate for the needs of the mentally ill (NAMI) and pet population control issues. She was preceded in death by husband Frank in 2008 and all her siblings: Betty Clark Drake, James A. Clark and Ernest L. Clark. Selma is survived by daughters Carol Martin, Diane McClaine and Lianne Hos; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
