Sandra Jean Costner (née Patty), aged 77, passed away on August 11, 2024, in her hometown of Maryville, TN. Born on June 6, 1946, in Maryville, Sandra was a beloved figure in her community and a dedicated registered nurse at the University of Tennessee Hospital, where she devoted approximately 45 years of her life, about half of that time serving in Day Surgery.
Sandra's passion for nursing, particularly as a surgical nurse, was evident to all who worked alongside her. Her commitment to caring for others extended beyond her professional life into her personal interests. A lifelong member of Broadway United Methodist Church, she embodied the values of compassion and service.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, which were sources of great pleasure and relaxation for her. Sandra also cherished spending time with her family, which was central to her life. She had a special place in her heart for her beloved cat, Clay, and found joy in dolphin watching during her favorite vacation in Panama City Beach in 2019.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Patty; husband, Edwin Costner; brother, Jerry Patty and nephew, Ken Henderson. Sandra is survived by her mother, Louise Patty; sister, Marlene Hodge; daughter, Helen Costner; son, Chris Costner and his wife, Robin Johnson-Costner; niece, Kelly Wheeler and her husband David Wheeler, niece, Kimberly Henderson, great niece Karlee Traylor and her husband Austin Traylor, great niece, Karyth Henderson, Katie Henderson; great nephews David and Brandon Wheeler; and great-great nephew Watson Traylor.
Sandra's life and legacy will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her dedication to her profession, and the joy she found in her many hobbies and interests.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Smith Trinity Chapel.
