Sam (S.L.) Jenkins, 97, of Maryville, passed away December 25, 2013 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by: Parents, R.L. (Fate) and Alice (King) Jenkins; Brothers, Harrell, Eugene, Joe, and John; and his wife of 61 years, Ruby Leslie Jenkins. A Veteran of the Army Air Corps in World War II and a Mason, Sam had been a member of Alcoa First United Methodist Church since 1956 and retired from Alcoa Electric with over 40 years of service. He enjoyed working in his garden and yard. Sam exemplified the traits of the Greatest Generation with his outstanding work ethic, resourcefulness, and love of church and family. He devoted himself to taking care of his wife, Ruby, during her last years. Survivors include: Daughter & Son-in-law, Judy & Bob Humphrey; Son & Daughter-in-law, Ron & Jan Jenkins; Grandchildren, Jill, Clay, Jenny, Julie, Katie, and David; Great-Grandchildren, Ian, Garrett, Hallie, and Kaley; Nephews and Wives, Joe Jenkins, King & Pat Jenkins, Barry & Tracie Jenkins, and Bruce Jenkins; Nieces, Pat Turpin and Linda Grantham. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff on 2E of Blount Memorial Hospital and at Morning View Village for the comfort and care they provided Sam. There will be a graveside celebration of life at Grandview Cemetery at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 28, 2013 with Revs. Bruce Marston, Jerry Page, and Joe Green officiating.
