FISHER, Rufus “Russ” – of Alcoa, Tennessee formerly of Oxford, Mississippi, age 86 passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020 at his residence. Honoring his wishes, cremation will be taking place. No services are planned at this time. Russ was born in 1933 in Oxford, Mississippi to the late Norman and Myrtle (Nicholas) Fisher. He graduated from Taylor High School. In December 1955 he married his high school sweetheart, Peggy French. He joined the army and served his country in Korea. Upon his return he worked for Continental Insurance. He later went to work for Ohio Casualty becoming the Branch Manager for their South Bend Branch office where he retired. While in South Bend, he was an avid Notre Dame Football and Basketball fan and was a season ticket holder for the basketball team for several seasons. Russ and Peggy retired in 1998 in Oxford, MS. There he enjoyed working in the yard of the dream home his wife designed. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family there. And then he became an Ole Miss fan following their football and basketball teams. He was also a member of North Oxford Baptist Church and loved his Sunday School Class. Russ enjoyed golf and reading books. He was also an active member of the American Legion and VFW in Oxford. 2016 Russ and Peggy moved to Alcoa, TN. In October 2019 Russ went on the Honor Air Knoxville Flight to Washington DC. Surving are his loving wife of almost 65 years, Peggy Fisher; Son Steve (Diane) Fisher; Daughter Lynda (Jim) Ludlow; Debra Fisher; Susan (Tim) Manring; Ten Grandchildren: Jessica Fisher, Josh Fisher, Joshua Ludlow, Michael (Rita) Ludlow, Samuel Ludlow, Taylor Fisher, Derrick Hamilton, Drew Hamilton, Brooke Manring and Kyah Manring; Four Great Grandchildren: Lily, Daisy, Michael and Riley; Sister Ella (Clay) Webb and Brother David (Rose) Fisher. Russ was preceded in death by Brothers Van Fisher; Lewis Fisher and Byron Fisher.
