Rudolph W. Stephens

January 14, 1930 — October 16, 2014

Rudolph W. Stephens age 84 of Maryville passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Turkey Creek Medical Center. He served Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church for many years as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. Rudolph served in the 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean War and received the Purple Heart Medal, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, and many other decorations. He also authored the book "Old Ugly Hill" about his combat experiences in the Korean War. He was a wonderful, devoted husband, father, and grandfather loving his family unconditionally. He left a lasting legacy with his family and friends as an accomplished musician, artist, and ham radio operator. He will be deeply loved and missed by those who knew him. Preceded in death by: Daughter, Janice Stephens Shultz; Brother, Ray Stephens. Survivors include: Wife of 61 years, Mary Jo "Peggy" Stephens; Son & Daughter-in-law, Mark & Bobbie Stephens of Knoxville; Daughter & Son-in-law, Cindy & Jeff Campbell of Maryville; Grandchildren, Bryan & Stacey Hannah, Amanda & Steve Atchley, Riley & Amy Campbell, Jessie & Casey Houston, Tyler Stephens and Kaitlyn Stephens; Great-Grandchildren, Janda Atchley, Wyatt Campbell and Soon to be Great-Grandchild, Tristan Houston; Brothers & Sisters-in-law, Ralph & Mary Stephens of Vonore; Monte & Janice Stephens of Dandridge, and Olin Stephens of Maryville; Sister, Carmeta Hyatt of Crossville as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Smith Chapel with Rev. Monte Stephens, Rev. Frank Mason & Jessie Houston officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
