Roy Medlin Jr.

May 17, 1935 — November 17, 2016

Roy Medlin, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 17, 2016. Born to Roy Franklin Medlin and Myrtle Jane Hunt Medlin on May 17, 1935 in Morganton, Tennessee, he grew up on the banks of the Tennessee River, where his love for fishing and hunting was nurtured. In 1956, Roy enlisted in the Air Force, serving his country in Japan, Pakistan, Canada, and the United States. After 20 years of service, he retired in 1976, returning home to Blount County with his family. Roy also served his community as a volunteer at the Blount County Rescue Squad for many years, with several of those years as treasurer. He worked at ALCOA for 17 years, retiring in 1992. But Roy always believed his greatest accomplishment in life – and occasionally the biggest challenge – was raising his five daughters. He was a wonderful father who was very proud of his girls. Mr. Medlin is preceded in death by: parents, mentioned above; sister, Rosa Bell Vaden, Mary Lee Lance, Iva Mae Medlin, and wife, Janice Medlin. Oh what a glorious homecoming in heaven! He is survived by: five daughters and sons-in-law, Sherri & Kevin Lilburn of OK, Terri & Tom Carey of PA, Cindi & Stan Stooksbury of Norris, Showni & Michael Crump of Rockford, and Missi Medlin of Livingston; sister, Ruby Spangler of Greenback; grandchildren, Matthew Brant, Andrew Sanford, Bethany Watson, Alex Zelesnikar; great-grandchildren, Brendan & Emma Watson, Jaedon & Lincoln Brant; special nieces, Patricia Newman, Kathy Spangler, Teresa McLemore, Jewel Sharp, and Sheila Ely who helped care for him in his last days. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Smith Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, with M.D. Cabe officiating. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 3:30 PM, Saturday, November 19, 2106 at Morganton Cemetery.
