Ronald Edward Campbell

October 16, 1935 — October 3, 2017

Ronald Edward Campbell passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a three year struggle with the effects of many strokes. Ron was born October 16, 1935 in Blount County and grew up with family on Prater Street (now Everett High Road). He lived on the Oak Ridge compound during WWII and finished school at Everett, graduating 1953. After serving in the Army, he attended Cumberland College graduating with a BS in biology and English. He then earned a MS and EDS from Tennessee Tech. Ron was a firm believer in education and spent many years in the Blount County School System starting as a teacher at Porter, principal at Prospect and lastly, principal at Porter School where he retired after 28 years. Preceding him in death are his parents Lloyd Campbell (Marjorie), Helen and Paul Snapp, and sister Mary Adel Rosine. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Faye Campbell and children, Kevin Campbell and Missy Garland (Robert) and his two favorite grandchildren Makayla Taylor (Jaron) and Zac Campbell, several nieces and nephews and many cousins. In addition to his career in education, Ron worked as a park ranger in the Great Smoky Mountains. He also served as a leader for the Youth Conservation Corps of the Smoky Mountains, combining his lifelong love of the outdoors and mentoring children. If you met Ron, you knew that he loved fishing and Fontana Lake (or really, anywhere) and was an avid golfer. He loved people and was a wonderful friend. His love of animals and art led to many beautiful pictures and drawings. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4pm on Sunday, October 8, 2017 and encourages the sharing of memories and thoughts. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers you may donate to Porter School through the Ronald E. Campbell Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
