Robert Allen Hummel, of Knoxville, peacefully passed away on October 2, 2018 at the age of 75. He was born in the Chilhowee community of Blount County, TN on April 24, 1943. He graduated from Lanier High School and received his B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. After graduation, he began his 40-year career at Y-12/DOE National Security Complex. He married his wife, Delores George Hummel, on June 4, 1966, and they have two daughters. Robert cherished spending time with his family, his grandkids were his greatest joy. He loved the outdoors, particularly fishing and boating. He volunteered for many community organizations such as Concord United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, Habitat for Humanity, Volunteer Ministry Center, and Medic. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Josie Hummel; and his brother, Fritz Hummel. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Delores, and his two daughters Michele Hummel and Melanie (Mike) Monroe; grandchildren Benjamin, Katelin, Caroline, and Isabella; sisters Marie Ledgerwood and Suzanne (Jim) Hartsell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Robert's life on October 6, 2018 at 1:30 pm at Concord United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm. A private interment will follow.
