Capt. Robert (Bob) A. Hicks, age 88, of Greenback, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, strong leader and anchor, kind and fair guiding mentor, and highly respected advisor to many, died Wednesday, January 4, 2017, following a full and adventure filled life. He was born in Union Hill, NY, and relocated to Greenback in 2005, from South Florida. He loved aviation and flying, became a pilot at age 19, and retired as Captain from Eastern Airlines, after almost 30 years. He traveled all over the world, and enjoyed sharing his many stories with delighted family, friends, and all he met. He served on PT boats in the U.S. Navy during WWII, after enlisting at age 16, was a proud lifetime member of the V.F.W., and very active in the American Legion. Bob mastered many things, was highly respected in both his professional and personal life, had an uncanny ability to stay in touch with people over many years, was quick to help those in need, and leaves a strong legacy of life lessons. He loved his family, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He attended Niles Ferry Baptist Church and Baker Creek Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary (Rudman) Hicks, son Bill Hicks and wife Tammy, daughters Diane Hicks and husband Tim, and Susan Hicks Walker and husband Greg; Grandchildren Michael Hicks, Christina and Ryan Villaverde, Hayley and Ansley Walker, 2 step-grandchildren, Tabitha Henry and Colby Lovin, and 3 step-great- grandchildren, Kamdyn, Keylie, and Keller.
