Robert W. “Bob? Allen passed away peacefully on August 3, 2011 at age 92 after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Louise Jamieson Allen. Bob was a certified member of America’s “greatest generation?. Born on Long Island, New York in 1918, he flew B-17 bombers for the U.S. Army Air Corp in WW II, survived a year in a German prison camp and returned to Long Island after the war to marry and start a family with Louise. Together in New York and later in New Orleans they raised five children, put them all through college and saw them all prosper, and have their own families. Bob was an excellent craftsman, tennis player, photographer and musician. Most of all he was a loving and caring father and husband. He will be dearly missed by his family. He is survived by his five children and their spouses: Joel & Lidia Allen of Tucson, AZ; Heather & Scott Erwin of Basalt, CO; Cindy & Phil Hoffman of Maryville; Susie & Mike Duggins of Orlando, FL; and Roby Allen of Black Mountain, NC; and by his seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all of those on the staff of Asbury Place who befriended, teased and cared for Bob during his 5 years there. Bob will be interred next to Louise in the veteran’s section of Grandview Cemetery in Maryville. A private memorial service was held at Fairview UMC on August 6, 2011. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Habitat for Humanity or Fairview United Methodist Church. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000.
