Richard Quinn "Tater" Phelps

Richard Quinn Taylor "Tater" Phelps, 95, passed away on July 15, 2015 at the Ben Atchley Veterans Home. Born in "Old Glory", Maryville, TN to Richard Earl and Kate Phelps on September 9, 1919, Quinn grew up in Middlesettlements and then lived in the Louisville area with his wife of 54 years, Bessie Evelyn McKeehan Phelps, where they raised three children. Quinn retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company after 44 years. He was a proud Veteran of WWII, and was in the 95th Infantry, Army Division, serving in the European Theatre. Quinn played baseball for many years with the CIO (Alcoa Union team). He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the Lady Vols! Preceded in death by his parents, wife Bessie, granddaughter Katherine Elizabeth Phelps, great-grandson Tristen Keller. Also his brother Aubrey, sisters Jewel Clemens, Louise Hord, Mary Earl Borden, Helen Williams. Survived by sons Richard Phelps (Carole), Donald Phelps (Kathi), and daughter Pamela Chasteen (James) and sister Jean Turner. Also survived by grandchildren Shanda Sutton, Scott Keller, Cameron Jones, Krista Compton, Shayne Phelps, Julie Parris. Twelve Great-grandchildren and seven Great-great grandchildren. Quinn will be missed greatly by his family and many friends. "Pappaw Quinn" greeted everyone with a wonderful smile that will be lovingly remembered forever. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Smith Trinity Chapel with funeral at 7:00 pm with Dr. Doug Sager and Rev. Rex Rogers officiating.
