Richard L. Pitner

April 4, 1943 — March 3, 2022

Richard Lee Pitner, Sr., 78, of Maryville, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 3, 2022. Richard was a member of Dotson Memorial Church. Born on April 4, 1943, he was the son of Otha Sr. and Stella May Pitner, Richard was a hard-working, self-employed master carpenter of over 50 years. He owned his own business and built and remodeled many homes in Indiana and Tennessee. Richard enjoyed life alongside his loving wife, Joyce, of 60 years. They enjoyed traveling and seeing the country. Richard enjoyed life to the fullest and loved playing pool, riding motorcycles, and going camping and fishing with his friends. Richard’s sense of humor would light up a room just by his presence. He always had a way of making one feel better when having a bad day and always had great advice. He cherished his friends and family and was always there to lend a helping hand. He loved the Lord and was a great witness. Richard will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. Richard’s life is mirrored in the verse Colossians 1:9-12: “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light.” Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Otha Sr. and Stella May Pitner, his son Richard Lee Pitner Jr., his daughter, Regina Ruthel Pitner, brother James Pitner, sisters Esther Roberts, Betty Marshall, Jean Strickland, Dorothy Bliss, Gladys Hannah, and Judy Goforth. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 in the Smith Trinity Chapel with the service to follow at 7:00 PM, with Reverend Gabe Brown and Reverend Jim Cummings officiating. Richard will be buried alongside his children at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Alcoa, Tennessee, on Wednesday, March 9,2022 at 3:00 PM.
