Rex L. Porter, age 87, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a life-long resident of Blount County and 71-year member of First United Methodist Church of Maryville. He was a World War II veteran and proudly served in the U.S. Army Infantry. He was wounded in combat in the Italian Campaign and received a Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrie and Maytie Porter; sisters Hazel Wright, June Blevins, Grace Roberts. Survivors include wife of 65 years, Virginia Myers Porter; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Carroll Huffine; granddaughter, Laura Mills and husband Sean and grandson, Trey Huffine; sisters-in law and brothers-in-law, Helen Bradshaw, Lois Myers, J. L. Myers (Reba), Joe Myers (Alice); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
