Ray Allen Ferguson

September 10, 1942 — February 22, 2017

Ray Allen Ferguson passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at UT Hospital. Ray was a loving man who was born in a little house on little river in Walland. He loved his mother greatly. He was a math teacher in Maryland and retired to take care of his mother and father. While living with them he went back to school for computer programing. Ray worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and received high honors for his computer programing performance in developing the Airlift Exceptional Deployment Analysis System (ADANS) which became the exclusive scheduling system utilized by the military airlift command in Operation Desert Storm and Desert Storm in what has been called the largest airlift in history. Ray attended Friendsville High School, East Tennessee State University, and State Technical Institute at Knoxville. Ray loved growing things and always had a large garden. He sold Iris for years and loved animals. Preceded in death by: Father, Victor Butler Ferguson; Nephew, Eric Ferguson. Survivors include: Mother, Gladys Irene Ferguson; Brothers, Bill Ferguson, Wayne Henry (Jack) Ferguson & wife Flossie Ferguson, Bob Ferguson & wife June Rostin, Gary Ferguson & wife Betty Jane Ferguson; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will assemble for graveside service and interment at 1:00 PM, Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Grandview Cemetery with Rev. Alta Raper officiating.
