Chevallier, R. Hershel age 71 of Maryville passed away at his home on Friday, December 22, 2006. Reverend Chevallier, a native of Louisiana was a graduate of Louisiana Baptist College and Southeastern Baptist Seminary, Wake Forest, North Carolina. He served as a Southern Baptist minister for over 50 years. He pastored churches in Louisiana, North Carolina, and Tennessee and was Pastor Emeritus at Cumberland Baptist Church of Knoxville where he served for 25 years. Rev. Chevallier served in multiple leadership positions in the Knox County Baptist Assoc., the Tennessee Baptist Convention, and Southern Baptist Convention. Positions included eight years on the Board of the Trustees of the Southern Baptist Convention's Home Mission Board, two terms on the Executive Board of the Tennessee Baptist Convention, and Moderator of the Knox County Baptist Association. He was preceded in death by his parents Len and Arzella Chevallier and one brother, J.D. Chevallier. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Jerry Chevallier; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Hamid Nasrollahi; son and daughter-in-law, Colonel Jim and June Chevallier; grandchildren, Rameen, Armon, Christina, and Jeanie; brothers, Travis and Vernon Chevallier; sisters, Doris Alexander and Johnnie Stinson; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service is at 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 27, 2006 in the Trinity chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Jerry Mantooth officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The private family burial is at Grandview Cemetery on December 28, with Rev. Howard Olive officiating. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Cumberland Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee at 7:30 PM with Dr. Aubrey Hay officiating. Visitation is from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
