Philip “Doc” Phillips, age 84, of Maryville, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at the family home. Mr. Phillips was retired as Captain of the Maryville Fire Department after 32 years of service. He was a Shriner and 32nd degree Mason with the Rockford Lodge. He was one of the original founders of the Blount County Rescue Squad. Doc was a loving husband and father who devoted many years of his life caring for his beloved wife, Mildred. Preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Mildred Jean Coggins Phillips; parents, Walter G. and Addie Mae Shults Phillips; brothers and sisters, Paul E. Phillips, Carrie Rebecca Phillips McMillon, Wayne S. “Buster” Phillips, John “Toot” Phillips, W.C. “Sambo” Phillips, and Dorothy “Sug” Milen. Survived by loving daughters and son-in-law, Gerrian Phillips, and Tara Phillips Jenkins and David; grandchildren and spouses, Amy Mason and Andy, Brandi McAlpin and Garrett; grand-dogs, Gracie, Lacie, and Mattie; great grandchildren, Drew and Ali Mason, and Bree McAlpin; sisters and brothers, special sister and best friend, Joyce Phillips Denton, Eula Phillips Freeman, and Clarence (Pert) & wife Janella Phillips; special loving friend and companion, “Ms Ruby” Grooms; special loving nieces and nephews; City of Maryville Fire Department family, special neighbors, Bill and Pat Eggers; special friend, Gordon Wilson; Honorary Pallbearers, Gordon Wilson, David Williamson, Frank Wright, Ed Mitchell, and Larry Cupp; Pallbearers, David Jenkins, Pete Kizer, Sandy Rinicker, Mike Sing, David Hodges, Mike Caylor, and Alan Holmes. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with the service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Chaplain Randy Thompson and Rev. Billy Carrigan officiating.
