Paul Steven Bay, age 75, of Greenback, TN, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born December 5, 1947, in Joplin, Missouri, the son of Rev. Paul H. and Marjorie (Johnson) Bay. In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by his sisters, Kerry Bay Franklin and Jana Paulette Bay. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sara Culvahouse; children, Alfie Bay Rowan (Mitchell), Paul Justin Bay (Kavita), and Nathan Taylor Bay; and four grandchildren, Austin and Jackson Rowan, Cy and Sujatha Bay. Paul was a life-long hospital chaplain. He received his MDiv from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Missouri and his DMin from Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, Indiana. During his 40 year career he served three hospitals: Baptist in Knoxville, Ascension St. Vincent and IU Health Methodist both of Indianapolis. He was a chaplain on critical care units: Oncology, Hospice and Cardiology and a published research chaplain. His favorite hobby was wildlife and nature photography. He was a regular published contributor to Nature Photographer Magazine. He had a long email list of friends and family with whom he shared his latest pictures. He loved to photograph the Smoky Mountains. He loved to visit his grandchildren and cheer them on in their sports or whatever endeavor they had undertaken, photographing them at every turn. He did the same with nieces and nephews. He loved to travel with wife Sara. In his words, he loved to fellowship with family and visit with friends. He loved to spoil his cat Margret. Family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 PM Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Smith Trinity Chapel. The Funeral Service will be at 1:30 PM with Pastor Sarah Slack officiating.
