Patricia Ann Goan

Patricia Anderson Goan, age 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2024 at her home in Louisville, TN. Patricia, better known as Pat, was the daughter of Joseph C. Anderson and Nell Hall Anderson. Pat grew up in the Hendersonville area of North Carolina and attended East Henderson High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina – Asheville. Pat came to Knoxville in 1972 to get her Masters degree in social work at the University of Tennessee. After graduation, she joined the Developmental and Genetic Center at the University of Tennessee Medical Center where she worked throughout East Tennessee with families that had children with special needs. She was recognized by her peers as a compassionate social worker who encouraged people and who got things done. She had a high regard and respect for families and supported those who often had few resources.  During this time, she was active with the Big Brother/Big Sister program and had a “little brother” with whom she spent many weekends camping.   After working 20 years for UT Hospital, she left to become the Employee Assistance Program Director for Levi Straus clothing company. In this role, she developed programs to provide employee counseling assistance as the company closed down their US production facilities. She retired from Levi Straus, but continued to work in the Knoxville area providing counseling to those in need. After retiring from social work, she became involved with the Volunteer Action Civitan Club, the Blount County Meals on Wheels program and the Senior Miles (SMiles) program which provided transportation for seniors.  She also loved the UT Gardens and was involved for several years in the UT Garden Gala.  She was also a member of the Green Meadow United Methodist Church and was involved with the women’s program. Pat was a fighter who fought metastatic breast cancer for more than eight years. The family wishes to thank the University of Tennessee Medical Center and Hospice for the excellent care she received during her fight. Pat is survived by her husband of 30 years, Charlie Goan; son Pat Mongomery (Leslie); daughter, Bonita Rodriguez (Rod); step-sons, Scott Goan and David Goan (Joelle); sister, Margaret Beasley; brother, Joe Anderson (Loree); many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Family and friends will gather at 2:00 PM for a Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Smith’s Trinity Chapel officiated by Pastor Jennifer McIntyre. The family will host a reception following the service at Smith’s Life Event Center, 1404 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37803.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Blount County Community Action Agency, 3509 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37803.
