Otie B. Smith

March 30, 1925 — September 29, 2008

Otie Benjamin Smith of Maryville, TN went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 29, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. He was 83. Otie had a passion for his church, his family, and service to his community. He was a WW II Veteran who was involved in the occupation of Japan and was later assigned to guard Tokyo Rose. Otie owned and operated Hart's Automotive Parts for many years and was highly respected in his industry. Otie was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 61 years. He served as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and Youth Director. Otie's service to the community continued with his dedication to the Lions Club International. Otie held many positions of leadership with the Lions, and achieved the prestigious rank of District Governor. Otie was preceded in death by: Father, Blennie Smith; Mother, Izola Smith; Brother, David. Survivors include: Wife of 61 years, Betty Smith; Daughter, Cheryl Smith Harrison & husband Don; Son, Phil Smith & wife Judy Morton Smith; Four Grandsons, Ryan Harrison & wife Leslie, Brent Harrison, Matt Harrison & wife Erin, and Blayne Smith; Four Great-Grandchildren, Morgan, Wesley, Tyler, and Hannah Harrison. Otie's surviving brothers & their wives include John & Bernice Smith, Wes & Nancy Smith, Ed & Denise Smith, Fred & Gail Smith; Sister, Dorothy & Jim Everett; Sister-in-law, Ann Smith. Memorial contributions can be made in Otie's name to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, The Lion's Club International, or the Alzheimer's Association. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM, Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Longmire officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 12:00 PM, Friday, October 3, 2008 at Grandview Cemetery for the interment.
