Dr. Oscar Livingstone Simpson passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 after a journey of 86 years. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, ball room dancing, photography, and bridge. His real passion was people. Dr. Simpson served the community as a family physician for over 48 years. Born in Brevard, NC on January 29, 1927 the youngest son of Pastor Dr. Oscar Simpson Sr. and wife Gladys, a Veteran of World War II, graduate from University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis in 1958. After he retired from practice he authored a book "My Dadaw Used to be a Doctor" which describes his experiences as a physician in rural areas of Tennessee and provides insight into his wit and humor. Throughout his life he demonstrated his love of Christ through helping people. He and his wife Janey have been active members of First United Methodist Church in Maryville since 1958 and particularly enjoyed visiting new members and families for the church. "Dadaw" will be missed by the many people his life touched. He and his wife Janey of 63 years were blessed with 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 19, 2013 at First United Methodist Church Maryville with Rev. Larry & Brenda Carroll and Rev. Bruce Farrant officiating. Private Graveside will be at Grandview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity of choice.
