Norma Millard Hunt

Norma Millard Effler Hunt, 88, of Maryville, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, surrounded by family. Norma was a loving mother, wife and grandmother. She laughed often and had a ready smile for friends and strangers alike. Even in her final days, she remained happy and greeted others with a twinkle in her eye. Norma was an avid hiker and was a member of Margaret Stevenson’s “Sweat Heifers.” She hiked to Mt. LeConte more than 50 times. She served as the first female deacon at First Baptist Church of Maryville, where she taught Sunday School for more than 20 years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Blount County Schools for more than 20 years. Norma loved to write and wrote stories and poems for the enjoyment of her family. In addition to writing, she loved music, poetry and animals. She had a deep fondness for Olivia Sipe, a cousin on her first husband’s side, and continued to enjoy lunching at Miss Olivia’s Table in the parlor. The family appreciates Olivia’s friendship and love. The family would like to thank the staff of Asbury Place for their loving care of Norma. Preceded in death by husbands, Robert P. Effler, Sr., and Henry Hunt; parents, James and Claire (Hudson) Millard, Sr.; brothers: James H. Millard, Jr., and infant brother, Charles Millard. Survivors include: sons, Rob (Wilma) Effler and David (Pat) Effler, and daughters, Joy (Bob) Sutton and Ramona (George) Akin; special niece Bonny Millard; grandchildren: Charlie Effler, Neil Effler, Joel Effler, Andrew Effler, Ellen Sutton, Alex Sutton, Bart Akin, Danah Mitchell, Joe Akin, Emily Akin; great-grandchildren: Lucy Akin, Olive Akin, Eli Effler, Kinsley Effler; brother, Joe (Donna) Millard of Colorado Springs, Co.; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at Smith Trinity Chapel, Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Maryville, followed by the funeral at 3 p.m. with Asbury Place Chaplain Bruce Farrant officiating. Family and friends will assemble for entombment at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at Grandview Mausoleum Chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons and Stan Mitchell, a granddaughter’s husband. A reception will be held at Miss Olivia’s Table after the service, and all friends and family are invited to attend.
