Nancy Johnston Morris passed away December 16 at her home. The daughter of John Rhea and Julia Forkner Johnston, she was born May 17, 1918. in Monroe County. A loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed writing poetry and was an avid reader having just started a new library book three days prior to her passing. In past years she was actively involved in several nonprofit organizations as well as her church, Green Meadow United Methodist Church. She received great joy in collecting toys throughout the year to send to the Appalachian area at Christmas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hardin Morris; her daughter, Nancy Gillespie; grandson, Scott Gillespie. She is survived by daughters, Julia (Sonny) Kyle; Sally (Todd) Lauterio; grandson, Todd (Misty) Gillespie; great-grandson, Shane Gillespie; former son-in-law, Dr. James Gillespie (Gail); special friends, Jane Rawls, Shirley Ann Porter, and Joyce Niles. She always referred to her beloved sons-in-law as her sons and counted them among her children. The family would like to thank Blount Memorial Hospice Care and especially Ferrell Martin and Lucinda Hairston along with caregivers and friends Jean Hurst, Theressa Bound, and Wendy Towles. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to her favorite charities: Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries, KARM, Holston United Methodist Home for Children, or Green Meadow United Methodist Church.
