Murray Clinton Cox, Jr.

November 21, 1928 — January 5, 2012

Murray Clinton Cox Jr. , age 83, of Maryville, went to be with the God he trusted Thursday, January 5, 2012, surrounded by family. He was a proud graduate of the Class of 1949 Texas A & M University. A native of Houston, Texas, he lived in Beaumont, Texas until moving to Maryville in 1994. In Beaumont, he owned Phillips Paper and Box Company with his father Murray C. Cox Sr. He was pastor of Bridge City Christian Church in Bridge City, Texas. During his time as pastor, he lead many people into a relationship with Jesus Christ, and continued after he retired from being a pastor. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was an ardent supporter of the men and women who serve the United States of America. He was a member of the Piney Level Baptist Church choir in Maryville and loved to sing. He shared love and laughter with his extended church family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he leaves his family a legacy of love and spiritual leadership. Preceded in death by: Parents, Murray C. Cox Sr. & Alice Wallis Cox; Niece, Lorie Collier; Father & Mother-in-law, Harold & Elsie Grow. Survivors include: Wife of 45 years, Barbara; Son, Brian Cox of Maryville; Son, Clay Cox & wife Rachael of Maryville; Grandchildren, Chelsea and Caleb Cox; Sister, Murnelle Collier of Houston; Niece, Valerie Lynn Collier of Houston; Nephew, Alan Collier of Houston. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM, Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. George Macht officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 9, 2012 at Grandview Cemetery for the interment. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000.
