Morris J. Candlish

Morris J. Candlish passed away Monday, October 4, 2010 from this life into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Morris was born in Judsonia, Arkansas on April 5, 1928, to William W. Candlish and Mary Ann (Suggs) Candlish. On October 21, 1945, he married Velma Ruth Finley. Morris and Velma raised their 5 children in Kokomo, IN before relocating to Maryville, TN in 1993. He was a former member of Bible Baptist Church in Kokomo, IN. Morris was a building contractor and real estate broker who specialized in the building and development of both commercial and residential real estate. He was a great example of a man who honored God with his work ethic, commitment to his family, and compassion and service for those God brought into his life. He never retired. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball and basketball, good music, his family, and traveling with Velma. Preceded in death by: parents; brothers, Dan Candlish Sr., William Earl Candlish, John “Bill�? Candlish, Aubrey Candlish; sister, Nellie Hudson. Morris is survived by his wife and best friend of 65 years, Velma. Also surviving are four sons: Rev. Gary W. Candlish (Carol) of Maryville, TN; John A. Candlish (Melissa) of Knoxville, TN; Gregory M. Candlish (Candy) of Knoxville, TN; Kevin B. Candlish (Mary) of St. Augustine, FL; one daughter, Sandy Taylor (Carter) of Evansville, IN; two sisters, Frances Hart of Plant City, FL and Helen Baldwin of Winter Haven, FL; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Smith West Chapel with Dr. Mark Martin officiating. Entombment will follow at Grandview Mausoleum Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to: Jewish Ministry Institute, 120 Pearson Springs Park Lane, Maryville, TN 37803 in Morris’ memory.
