Mitch Day, age 50, was born August 12, 1961 passed away at Blount Memorial Hospital on Monday, September 19, 2011. He was the beloved and devoted husband of Valerie and stepfather to Sarah, Hilary, Zac, Tyler and Josh. He loved fishing and proudly served in the US Navy. Mitch devoted his life to serving those in need. He was council, friend, and mentor to hundreds of veterans and men in our area. He was a 1979 graduate of Friendsville High School and 1988 graduate of Lincoln Memorial University. He attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. He is preceded in death by grandparents Eva Vaughan and Charles Claude Day and Mary Oleda and Glen Bohannon. Mitch will be lovingly missed by his wife Valerie and stepdaughter Sarah Parsley; mother Jean Day; father and stepmother Leroy and Wanda Day; brother and sister-in-law Jeff Day and Lisa Beal; stepchildren Hilary Collins, Zachary Dunn, Joshua Dunn and Tyler Bain. Family and friends will gather Thursday, September 22 at 2:00 for services at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 314 W. Broadway Ave., Downtown Maryville followed by Military Burial at Grandview Cemetery. A Celebration of Life and visitation will be held at Smith Life Event Center, 1404 Tuckaleechee Pike immediately following burial. Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation may send it to Steps House - New Comer's Fund, 2301 Davenport Rd., Knoxville, TN 37920. This fund was very special to Mitch, as it helped homeless veterans coming off the street to have some pocket money as they started their new life.
