Millicent Marie Hinger

February 3, 1920 — July 20, 2013

Millicent Marie Hinger, age 93, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Shannondale of Maryville. She was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by: Parents, John & Myrtle Sain; Husband, John Hinger. She was born in Superior, Wisconsin in 1920 and grew up in the Milwaukee area. She attended the University of Wisconsin. After she married John, they moved to Maryville in 1946 and spent many happy years here until John was transferred to Washington DC in 1962 with United Airlines. Millicent went to work for Garfinckel's Department Store and retired from there. After her husband died in 1988 she moved back to Maryville to be near her daughter and family. In retirement she particularly enjoyed volunteering at the Blount County Public Library as well as teaching adult literacy with the Blount County Literacy Council. She won their Volunteer of the Year Award in 2003. The family is especially grateful for the wonderful care Millicent received at Shannondale and for the ministry of New Providence. She is survived by: Daughter & Son-in-law, Kathy & Steve Dorner of Maryville; Granddaughter, Caroline Miller & husband Gene; Great-Grandchildren, Harrison & Elizabeth. Cusick Street, Maryville, TN 37801. Memorial service will be at 4:00 PM, Friday, July 26, 2013 at New Providence Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
