Mildred Jean Phillips

July 29, 1939 — June 20, 2009

Mildred Jean Coggins Phillips age 69 of Maryville, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Blount Memorial Hospital after a long courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was a member of Grandview Baptist Church. She was a loving wife and mother who touched many, many lives with her strength, kindness and sweet smile. Preceded in death by her parents, Fate and Ethel Coggins; brother, Creed Coggins; sister, Wilma Dean Cates. Survivors include husband, Mannie "Doc" Phillips; daughter, Gerrian Phillips of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Tara and David "Peanut" Jenkins of Knoxville; grandchildren, Brandi Burdine, Amy Mason and husband Andy; great grandson, Drew Mason; brother, Michael "Earl" Coggins of Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Bob Hall of Maryville; sisters-in-law, Joyce Denton and Janella Phillips; special friend, Gordon Wilson; caregiver, Nell Laney and a host of other family members. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. David Calvert and staff and Dr. Deaver Shattuck, SICU and 2 North Nurses and staff at Blount Memorial Hospital, also to the City of Maryville Fire Department, the Doctors and staff at Blount Gastroenterology, and Dr. Sam Kabbani and staff for all your love and support. Funeral service will be at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 in the Smith West Chapel with Rev. Terry Russell officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be from the City of Maryville Fire Department, Chaplain Randy Thompson, Rusty Brewer, Mike Sing, Steve Hammontree, Gary Williamson, and Tommy Russell. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 983-1000.
