Micheal William Harris

Micheal W. Harris, 61, of Maryville passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Blount Memorial Hospital of complications due to lung cancer. Mr. Harris was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He attended Mississippi State University and was a computer programmer analyst with Fidelity Information Services. Mike loved the great outdoors. In earlier years he was an avid duck hunter. He also loved camping and any kind of fishing. He found his latest passion of barbecuing different styles of food. He had built a reputation especially for Thanksgiving Day turkeys. This was his retirement dream. Of all his life's accomplishments, his proudest was watching his three children grow into the fine adults they are today. He encouraged them to find their own path in life and to work and achieve it. Daddy was a down to earth guy who felt easy-going was the way life should be. He would extend a hand to anyone that may have needed it. Even in his last days, we heard him offer a helping hand. He enjoyed life to the fullest, just not long enough. Many thanks to all his co-workers and friends that sent cards of encouragement and prayers for the last 2 years. He was really touched and grateful for your concern. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Mark Cooper of Blount Memorial and Dr. Spence McCachren of Thompson Oncology Group for their constant help and support. Thank you to the Palliative Care Team that constantly showed their compassion and made his last days very comfortable. The excellent nursing staff on the 4th floor was very much appreciated. Thank you for all your care and kindness. All of this helped us with the fear and hurt we were going through. Preceded in death by: Mother, Joy R. Harris. Survivors include: Wife of 33 years, Diana Harris; Children, Sarah Knight & husband Ed of Seymour, Adam Harris & wife Kim, and Emily Harris all of Maryville; Two beautiful grandchildren, Austin and Callie Harris; Father, Charles H. Harris of Vicksburg, MS; Brother, John C. Harris & wife Brenda of Fredericksburg, VA. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Pastor Brad Bryant officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery, 2304 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37803. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Smith Trinity Chapel.
