Maxine Scouten Shannon

Maxine Scouten Shannon age 87 of Maryville, formerly of Waynesville, NC, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Shannondale of Maryville. Maxine was born in Muskegon, MI and was a 1947 graduate of Muskegon Senior High School. She was a Veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War. Maxine retired from Western Carolina University as departmental secretary. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Maryville where she was a member in the choir. She loved music, was an accomplished cellist and was an active contributing member of the Shannondale Community. Preceded in death by her husband, Tim Shannon; father of her children, James Swanger; daughter, Nancy Connor. Survivors include her son, Dr. Stephen Swanger and wife, Rose; daughters, Myra Swanger and Kathleen Swanger; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, David Scouten and wife, Peggy; sister, Arlene Elder; many nieces and nephews, and dear friends at Shannondale. The family would like to thank all who have loved and cared for Maxine for the past 11 years. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016 in the Smith Trinity Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with military honors.
