Max Houston Coulter

Max Houston Coulter, 86, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on November 12, 2024. He was born August 26, 1938 on the family farm by Coulter's Bridge. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. After earning a degree in Agricultural Engineering from UT, he chose to teach and work the family farm. He was an educator with Blount County Schools for 40 years teaching math at Walland and Heritage High Schools. He served as an Assistant Principal at Heritage for 15 years. His students loved and respected "Mr. Coulter" with many saying they became teachers themselves because of him. Max raised cattle and crops on the family farm. He loved sports and was the quarterback of the Walland Indians in 1955 and held kicking records there for many years. He loved the Vols, but the teams his grandsons played for were always his favorites. Nothing mattered more to him than family, and he treasured family gatherings. If you were family, you were loved and he was proud of you. Preceded in death by his parents Andy and Anna Coulter; in-laws, Oliver and Hettie Lawson; brother, Harold Coulter; sisters Eileen Lowe and June Walker Daniels. Survived by his loving wife and best friend of 63 years, Betty Coulter; sons Mike (Jan) Coulter and Bryan (Hollie) Coulter; grandsons, Brad (Anndrea) Coulter, Seth (Haven) Coulter, Andrew (Addie) Coulter, and Graham Coulter. Great grandchildren' Lucas, Oakleigh, Ethan, Zane, Charlotte, Navy, and Savannah. Also, many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Saturday, November 16, at 3:00 PM with receiving of friends from 1:00-3:00. The interment will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery immediately following the funeral. Reverends Greg Long and Doug White officiating.
