Mary Helen Sparks

Mary Helen Sparks, age 83, of Maryville, TN, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Blount Memorial Hospital. After graduating from Everett High School, she went on to work at Levis. After raising a family of three, Helen went back to school to get her LPN. She first worked for Blount Memorial Hospital Transitional Care Unit, and then she retired from Asbury Acres. Helen’s faith was secure in knowing the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, which was shown through her love to all her family and everyone she came to know. If she knew you, she insisted you call her “Mamaw.” She was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Helen enjoyed reading books, watching her favorite TV shows such as “Perry Mason” and “The Price is Right”, and spending time talking or visiting with her grandchildren. Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Sparks and her brother, Elmer McPherson; sisters Paulette Coleman, Johnnie Mae Whitehead. She is survived by her sons, David Sparks (Lisa), Scot Sparks (Pam); daughter, Janet Sneed (Mike); brother, James McPherson; sisters-in-law, Martha Boring, Carolyn McPherson; brother-in-law, Buck Whitehead; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; special lifetime friend, Brenda Hall. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 5, 2024 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Smith’s Trinity Chapel with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. Brian Whitehead.
