Mary Alice Hart, age 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, after her battle with Parkinson’s. Mary was born in Alcoa, TN, on February 9, 1944, to Don and Evelyn McMillan. As a 1962 graduate of Alcoa High School, she furthered her education at The University of Tennessee. After obtaining her Education Degree, she pursued her dream and passion to educate and work with children. Mary Alice made many loving, compassionate, and memorable impressions on the hundreds of children she educated throughout her 34-year career of teaching. Mary has been a resident of Maryville and Alcoa her entire life, spent with her family, friends, and devoted husband and high school sweetheart, Gary Curtis Hart. She was known for her laughter, kind smile, and gracious heart.
Preceded in death by her husband, Gary Curtis Hart, her parents, Don and Evelyn McMillan, sister Helen Spears, and brother-in-law, Franklin Pendley. Survived by her daughters Vandy Wilkins (Rick) and Emily Bishop (Wes), grandchildren Mac Wilkins, Laney Wilkins, Jeb Bishop, sister-in-law Joan Pendley, brother-in-law Mike Spears, niece Susan Pershing, and nephews Bo and DJ Spears.
Family and friends will assemble on Monday, April 22 at 1:00 pm at Grandview Pavilion for the gathering of friends and funeral service with Pastor Jonathan Jonas officiating.
