Mary Ruth (Peggy) McClanahan Cogburn July 19, 1932 - March 29, 2025

Mary Ruth "Peggy" McClanahan, age 92, passed away on March 29, 2025, after a long battle with dementia. She was born on July 19, 1932, to Earl Wayne and Hazel Josephine McClanahan.

Peggy is survived by her beloved husband, Fred Charles Cogburn, and their son, Freddie Cogburn, and his wife, Teresa Cogburn, with their sons and Peggy's pride and joy, Christopher Cogburn and Jeremiah Cogburn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Hazel McClanahan, and her siblings: Mona McClanahan, Dorothy McClanahan, Ruby McClanahan, Ernest (Bud) McClanahan, John (Jake) McClanahan, Edwin (Ed) McClanahan, and William (Bill) McClanahan.

She is also survived by some very special caregivers that have become like family. Their help, love, and friendship that developed with Peggy and Fred will always be cherished.

Peggy married the love of her life, Fred Cogburn, on January 1, 1955, and recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. Their one and only child, Freddie, was born a few years later.

Peggy will be remembered for her love of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her deep love for Fred, Freddie, Teresa, and the grandsons Christopher and "little" Jeremiah, her kindness and generosity to others, her fun nature, and the love she shared with her friends and neighbors.

A celebration service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 608 Ed Davis Rd, Maryville, TN 37801 on Thursday April 3, at 1:30 PM. Family and friends will reconvene at 3:00 PM at Grandview cemetery for the interment.

She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
