Mary Beth Carlson

August 7, 1960 — April 17, 2016

Mary Beth Carlson passed away peacefully on the morning of April 17, 2016 at home while being comforted by her husband, as a result of a five-year battle with cancer; she was fifty-five years old. Mary Beth was born in Warner Robbins, GA on August 7, 1960 as the youngest child and the second daughter of William “Bill” and Elaine Powell. She is survived by her husband, Craig Harlan Carlson, her daughters, Bethany Kay, Amy Brett, Kalee Joy, and Zoe Blake; her son-in-law, Anthony Dewayne, and her sister and brother-in-law, Jeff and Lynn holder, as well as her (sometime) adoring cat, Tiger Lilly. She was a minister’s wife who played intricate rolls in the following Blount County church families: Wildwood Baptist Church, East Maryville Baptist Church, Madison Avenue Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church Friendsville, and the school family at Maryville Christian School. She was very hospitable, thoughtful, and enjoyed the traditions of family and holidays. She had a kind word for everyone she came across. Throughout life, she enjoyed hobbies such as cross-stitching, scrapbooking, traveling to new places, and attempting new recipes and crafts. A special thank-you goes out to the doctors and staff at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Goodyear, AZ and Newnan, GA for assisting Mary Beth to fight as hard and as long as she did. A Celebration of Mary Beth’s Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in the Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Society, Jill Rollins, Memorial Chair, 2330 Chesterfield Drive, Maryville, TN 37803, www.cancer.org.
