Mary Martha Sue Capps Satterfield, age 89, passed away on March 21, 2024, at Brookdale, Browns Creek Assisted Living, Maryville, TN. She was born June 6, 1934, in Knoxville, TN. Sue graduated from Alcoa High School, class of 1952. During high school, she was a cheerleader and a stand-out basketball player. Sue was named All County for the 1951-1952 season. After high school, she continued to support her beloved Alcoa High Tornadoes, where she was a member of the Alcoa Alumni Association and, at one time, served as secretary. She worked for Sky Chef at McGhee Tyson Airport until her retirement. She was a 50-plus-year member of Alcoa First Baptist Church, an active member of the Believers group, served over the Card Ministry, and would often be a Greeter. Sue loved to cook for her family and made many, many fond memories of after-church Sunday lunches and huge family Christmases. Sue leaves family and friends with a lifetime of precious memories. She truly was the life of the party. Even though she was battling dementia, she never lost her quick wit and beautiful smile. Sue is preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband, Dillard Satterfield. They married on September 6, 1953, and they were happily married for 54 years. She is also preceded in death by her son, Mike L. Satterfield, mother and father Kettie Mize Capps and Samuel C Capps. and sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Jack Jerome. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-laws Rick and Vicki Satterfield of Maryville, TN; Randy and Betsy Satterfield of Friendsville, TN; daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Mark Tipton of Rockford, TN. Grandchildren: Ashley Murr, Britney Dykes, Melissa Satterfield, Taylor Allen, Shaina and Amanda Brookshire, Aaron Tipton, Eric Dunn, Tabatha Hall. Great-grandchildren: McKinna, Ella, and Presleigh Murr, Trent and Garrett Lockhart, Millie Kate Allen, Jayden, and Jonathan Hill. Brother and sister-in-law Sam and Phylis Capps. Many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Brookdale Browns Creek Assisted Living and the Amedisys hospice care staff for their excellent care and compassion. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Grandview Pavilion & Legacy Trail, 2316 Graves Rd, Maryville, TN 37803 for a graveside service, with Pastor Danny Davis officiating.
